Sanibel
Island is a paradise of natural beauty, with wildlife sanctuaries and
preserves, lush vegetation, quiet neighborhoods, lovely bike paths, and
all this surrounded by soft, white beaches and beautiful blue subtropical
waters. There is also biking, rollerblading, golf, tennis, shopping, restaurants
and live theater,
The island is 12 miles long and 5 miles across at its widest. Much of the island is reserved for Mother Nature. Sanibel is the home of the "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, with over 7,000 acres, a haven for large flocks of neo-tropical wading water birds and migrating waterfowl, as well as alligators, otters, raccoons and even an American crocodile!
